The Federal Executive Council (FEC) this morning honoured the late
State House correspondent of Channels Television, Mr. Chukwuma
Onuekwusi, with a one-minute silence before cabinet members commenced
deliberations.
Onuekwusi died aged 55 in the early hours of Tuesday at an Abuja
hospital where he battled with a health challenge for almost two months.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who presided over the FEC meeting,
called for the observance of the minute silence soon after the
recitation of the National Anthem and religious prayers that usually
open the meeting.
Osinbajo described the deceased as an articulate and patriotic journalist; and prayed for God to comfort his family.
His words: "Honourable ministers and members of the Federal Executive
Council, yesterday we got the very sad news of the passing on of one of
the members of State House family.
"He is Chukwuma Onuekwusi, of the Channels Television, who passed on after a brief illnesses yesterday.
"In recognition of the fact that we remember a very good, a very
articulate and also a very patriotic and committed journalist, I want us
in honour of this fine gentleman to rise and observe a minute silence.
"We pray for the comfort of his family and all of those he left behind. Amen."
A day earlier, presidential media aides led by Femi Adesina, had
similarly observed a minute silence in honour of Onuekwusi, before the
commencement of a press briefing to flag off activities marking the
secondary anniversary of the Muhammad Buhari administration
