Katy Perry Makes History With Third RIAA Diamond Song Award

First Artist Ever To Earn Three RIAA Diamond Song Awards.
Katy Perry has made history. The singer's label announced (and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed) on Thursday (June 22) that Perry's "Roar" has earned a Diamond Song Award from the Recording Industry Association of America, meaning the track has passed the 10-million threshold of equivalent song units moved in the U.S.

That certification comes on top of previous Diamond song certifications for her earlier hits "Dark Horse" and "Firework," which, according to Perry's label, Capitol Music Group, makes her the first artist in history to earn three Diamond Song awards.

"Once again, Katy Perry has made history," RIAA Chairman/CEO Cary Sherman said in a statement announcing the landmark. "We are thrilled to recognize Katy as the first artist to earn three Diamond Song Awards. Katy has a singular track record of notable Gold & Platinum achievements, and this triple Diamond milestone is now forever etched in our program's history. Only 14 songs have earned Diamond status to date, and Katy owns three of them -- what a remarkable achievement and testament to a groundbreaking artist."

During the course of Katy’s career, 21 songs have achieved RIAA certification, and three studio albums have also been certified Platinum or multi-Platinum.
